FOR SURGERY AT SAINT BARNABAS MEDICAL CENTER WEST ORANGE, NJ 07052
You have just seen Dr. Coutinho at New Jersey Urology. The next step is to report to Saint Barnabas Medical Center for pre-admission testing which will consist of an EKG, blood work and possible chest x- ray. You can expect to be there at least one hour.
When you leave this building, you will go to Saint Barnabas Medical Center. Once in the building, you will go to the Pre-testing area located on the __ Floor.
Please keep a copy of this important information:
DO NOT EAT OR DRINK ANYTHING (including water) after 12:00 am MIDNIGHT ON THE DAY BEFORE SURGERY, NOR THE DAY OF SURGERY EXCEPT FOR KEFLEX AND/OR AS DIRECTED BY DR. COUTINHO (SEE HOW TO TAKE THE MEDICATIONS SHEET).
DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN AND ASPIRIN PRODUCTS for one week prior to surgery (including Ecotrin, Anacin, Bufferin, Advil, and other coated aspirin products).
Dr. Coutinho’s office will call you the day before your scheduled procedure date (or if your surgery is on a Monday, the office will call you the Friday before) to inform you of the time you need to check in for your procedure and where you need to go in the hospital. You can also call the pre-operative nurse at ___________ a day before your scheduled surgery.
Please arrive at least 2 HOURS prior to your scheduled procedure.
If you plan to spend the night anywhere other than your home the night before your admission, please call us at (973) 218-9400 before 5:00 PM and give us the telephone number so that we may reach you if necessary.
DO NOT SHAVE scrotal and perineal prior the procedure. Dr. Coutinho will do this himself on the day of the procedure as shaving prior the procedure increases bacterial colony count on the skin.
IMPORTANT: Please make arrangements for a friend or relative to escort you home after surgery.
